Battle of the Bands: WE'RE IN!

The Lollards have been invited to participate in the Rock Culture Music Festival Battle of the Bands concert series, to be held at the Rave Bar in Milwaukee, WI. The event will host 32 bands from all over the Midwest in competition for a grand prize, $1000 cash, second and third place winners will not be left out, second place will receive $500 and third will receive $250. In addition, the winning band will win a free side stage concert at the Rave.

The trick here...the audience gets to vote for the best band. That means you, yes YOU, our loyal fans, can take us all the way to the top!

The preliminary rounds of the competition will take place 2/23 & 2/24 in addition to 3/10 & 3/24. Eight bands will compete each night. The top two bands from each night move on to the finals held on Friday, March 30th. Each band will receive a 30 minute set and audience participation will decide the top two bands each night. Audience members will place there ticket stubs in the bucket of the band they want to vote for. (Each band will have there own bucket) The more people each band gets to come support them, the higher the chances for a win. Check it out at www.myspace.com/rockculturemusic

As soon as we get our performance dates and times...we will let you know!

Mystery Media Part I

They say that no publicity is bad publicity.

So who knows HOW to take the following mention in The Onion AV Club Today...they got the time wrong...there is a picture of a band that is neither Michael Fairchild NOR The Lollards...and there's no mention of headliner The Getaway Drivers...never mind their strange description of both Michael's band and The Lollards:

"Michael Fairchild + The Lollards
Electric Earth (W. Washington Ave), 7pm
Okay, so who in Madison HASN'T seen a dude with a guitar and a beatbox playing his clever little songs in a coffee shop? Michael Fairchild might be your best bet for catching up on that particular staple of the cosmopolitan life. He's got experience playing music that could be severely annoying but that, in his hands, is merely a tad cutesy, leaving room for redeeming wordplay and playful melodies. Laid-back and rootsy fellow locals The Lollards should bring a little balance to the bill."

At least we're not portentious...

[UPDATE: 1/29/2007: The local music editor for the AV Club contacted The Lollards and personally apologized for the mistakes. Gotta give the guy a little credit for stepping up...AND for bothering to read our blog! This could be the start of a beautiful friendship...though Michael may still require more convincing...or at least a little cuddling and heavy petting...]

New Show Dates

If next Friday's (Jan 26th) Electric Earth show isn't enough for you...The Lollards are hitting the road!

Friday, March 9th: Original Coffee, Brookfield, WI
The good folks at Original Coffee are trying to bring live music to the suburbs and The Lollards will be there to rock the masses' triple half-caf, carmel lattes right out of their hands.

Saturday, April 14th: Oshkosh Half Marathon, Oshkosh, WI
A rare morning show for all of you folks who like to get to bed at a decent hour. Best of all...the show is free for you and paid for us! If we can just adjust to 10 seconds of clapping every five minutes, we'll be fine.

Times and details to follow on both shows...and perhaps even more out-state gigs to come!

In the Studio

Dar's house was tranformed into a recording studio yesterday as we put down tracks for the impending EP. Jon's buddy loaned us a FANTABULOUS tube amp that made Jon sound so sexy that everyone in attendance wanted to do him (including Walter, the bunny rabbit). The best part...the amp was made by Sears.

The madness continues tonight and throughout the week. With enough smoke, tequila, and G strings at our disposal...we ought to have this bad boy ready for you all, our adoring fans, by the show on the 26th.

Revolution Robbie

I'm happy to say that someone finally brought a camera to one of our shows. My skills at captioning in Blogger suck...so I'll just let you figure out what's what:
1. Jon the celery stalker
2. Alder Robbie Webber applauds her constituents
3. Peewee and Pants cozy up to our host for the evening, Jeff of Revolution Cycles (go get yer bike turned up there, would ya?)
4. People actually dancing to our music
5. The band in question...complete with our new band member, the multi-colored pole.
6. Oh, did I mention...we're playing January 26th at Electric Earth?
